Be Joyful, Pray and Give Thanks

“Be Joyful always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
1 Thessalonians 5:16, 17, 18

As you do God’s will, you will find it easier to be joyful and thankful. You must make a conscious decision to do what He commands. Be joyful, pray and give thanks. As you do these three simple acts you will begin to see people and circumstances in a new perspective.

As you realize the presence of the Holy Spirit in you and your dependence on His guidance, you will have a deep desire to obey Him. You will find in natural to pray frequent short prayers. You will begin to trust the Holy Spirit more and more. You will be genuinely thankful for His presence. You will know without any doubt that He will accomplish good through all circumstances.

You must avoid tempting situations and concentrate on obeying God. Persevere in intercessory prayer. Jesus Christ, the interceding High Priest will work and pray in and through you.

Family is liked a crammed bus at an airport where people are thrown together by chance on a short journey, saying as little as possible. The only difference is you’ll eventually get off the bus and never see these folks again. With difficult relative, this isn’t so. They’ll be there at family reunions Christmas, Thanksgiving, weddings and funerals.

Did you know that Jesus had a difficult family? And it may surprise you to know that Jesus’ family didn’t appreciate him. However, He didn’t try to control His family’s behavior, nor did He let their behavior control Him. He didn’t demand that they agree with Him. He didn’t sulk when they insulted Him. He didn’t make it His mission to try to please them.

When Jesus’ family didn’t share His convictions, He didn’t try to force them. He recognized that His spiritual family could provide what His physical family didn’t. If Jesus Himself couldn’t force his family share His convictions, what makes you think you can force yours?

Your family may never give you the blessing you seek, but God will. Be joyful, pray continually and give thanks for your family even though they may never affirm you. Let your Heavenly Father take their place.
